(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):In the social sciences we are familiar with the socialisation of children into economic individuals primarily from the perspective of the market research. While they ignore the interests and aims of commercial childhood research, the various academic disciplines use their arguments and data to emphasise the change of 'traditional' childhood into a consumer childhood. Thus they reinforce the idea of the 'enormous purchasing power', the 'consumer orientation', the 'brand consciousness' of the children. The market establishing itself as an agency of socialisation is accepted as one of the essential characteristics of the changing childhood nowadays. But the market is an abstract place, constructed through competition between suppliers, in order to gain the favour of the customers. For this reason this essay deals with the image of the child as a customer and its influence on the perception of modern childhood. This will be demonstrated by the findings on the topic of the children's own money. The results are discussed against the background of the ambivalent theorems on the commercialisation of childhood as a modernisation phenomenon. (DIPF/Orig.)
