(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (Englisch):An empirical study was conducted to assess the attitudes towards mainstreaming of 524 parents of Austrian primary-school students with different experience of and contacts with integrative classes. Multivariate analyses led to the following main results: With regard to their educational objectives, parents of mainstreamed children may be characterized by a rejection of traditional pedagogical values. The attitude towards scholastic integration depends, on the one hand, on the amount of experience with mainstreaming and, on the other, on the type of handicap: integration of physically handicapped children is judged more favorably; furthermore, parents of children attending integrative classes have, in general, a more positive view of the effects of integration. Half of the parents who have no experience with mainstreaming are willing to participate in educational experiments with mainstreaming. This is significantly predicted by, among others, the following variables: opinions concerning effects of integration and an interest in further information on mainstreaming. (DIPF/Orig.)
