The university publishing house (Universitätsverlag) Brockmeyer was established in 1974 and until 2000, it printed a large scope of science literature focusing on linguistics, economics, East Asia science, history, politics, legal science and journalistics. With respect to the domain of educational science, the “Dortmunder Arbeiten zur Schulgeschichte und historischen Didaktik“ (Dortmund series on school history and history of didactics) as well as the “Dortmunder Beiträge zur Pädagogik“ (Dortmund contributions to pedagogics) , both founded in the 1980s and 1990s, are of particular relevance. A large part of these scholarly titles is out of print, or limited copies can be obtained at special prices from the publishing house shop. Pädagogische Korrespondenz (PÄK – pedagogical correspondence) has been published since 1987 by the “Institut für Pädagogik und Gesellschaft“ (Institute for Pedagogy and Society) in Münster. The magazine is published twice a year to practice and disseminate “contemporary critical diagnosis in the field of pedagogics and society”. Different text types and formats are included, e.g. case studies, essays, reprints from past publications, pedagogical research findings and polemic documentation.
In particular, the journal has endeavoured to encompass an unusually broad realm of attention to what might be discovered when applying classical critical theory to contemporary developments in education. At the same time, the journal has never focused on one particular school of thought, but rather been open to different lines of argument and counter-argument. From a methodological perspective, the journal is still guided by the principle that only the contradiction between “what something claims to be” and “what it really is” might lead to substantial insights. Politically, the journal is dedicated to non-conformist thinking.

The Swiss Society for Research in Education SSRE was founded in 1975 and is a member of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW) as well as of the European Educational Research Association (EERA). In this context, the SGBF publishes the "Schweizerische Zeitschrift für Bildungswissenschaften SZBW", which is delivered in three languages. The SZBW is a discussion forum open to researchers working in the area of educational science. The Schweizerische Koordinationsstelle für Bildungsforschung (SKBF |CSRE, Swiss Coordination Centre for Research in Education SCCR) is a joint institution of the Swiss federal government and the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK)). Its services contribute to strengthening educational research in Switzerland. SCCR aims to improve the communication between educational policymakers, educational practitioners, educational administration and researchers. SCCR tasks incorporate the documentation of educational research activities conducted in Switzerland. To this end, an openly accessible database is provided (www.skbf-csre.ch). SCCR supports information exchange among educational researchers, delivering information about new research projects, encouraging thematic networks and operating the secretariat of the Swiss Society for Research in Education ((SSRE). To facilitate the interplay between research, administration, practice and politics in education, SCCRE operates the administrative offices of the Swiss Council for Educational Research (CORECHED) and the Swiss Conference of Directors of Cantonal Centres for Educational Research (CODICRE). The VS Verlag publishing house is leading in social science publishing in the German language area. Its programme of books and journals comprehends the domains of social science, politics, pedagogy, communication and psychology. The VS authors are renowned scientists and they actively shape and counsel politics, education and society. In 2004, the VS publishing house was established following a merger of two social science publishing houses sharing a long.-standing social science competence, each having a long history in its own right: Westdeutscher Verlag (est. 1947) and Leske + Budrich (est. 1974.. The programme has since been continually expanded and and customised to the current requirements of the market.
When politician, bookseller and printer Dr. Friedrich Middelhauve founded Westdeutscher Verlag, he initially focused on publishing economy textbooks and litrary and literature science works. Professor Dr. Eugen Schmalenbach, founder of the Cologne School of Economics, was one of his first renowned authors and editors. In 1948 ,the “Zeitschrift für betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung” (Journal of Economy Research) and the Cologne ”Zeitschrift für Soziologie und Sozialpsychologie” (Journal of Sociology and Social Psychology) laid the foundation for the book programme focusing on economy and sociology publications. From 1957 onwards, additional impetus was given to the domain of political science, e.g. by publication of the “Politische Vierteljahresschrift “ (Politics Quarterly). In the early 1990s, the Westdeutscher Verlag successfully entered the new domain of communication science. At the time, the journal “Publizistik informiert heute“ reached out to a large scholarly community.
In the early years, the book programme of Leske + Budrich focused on civic education and social science. The ”Berliner Journal für Soziologie“ (Berlin Journal of Sociology) strengthened the segment. The domain of peddagogy and the “Zeitschrift für Erziehungswissenschaften“ (Journal of Educational Science) expanded the concept in subsequent years, as well as the programmatic area of social work and its respective journal, “Sozial Extra“. The close ties of the publishing house to the sciences are demonstrated by diverse collaborations between the publisher and diverse science institutions, e.g. the German Youth Institute in Munich (DJI), the Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development in Berlin or the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP).
