Abstract (English):The authors propose a change in perspective for further research on failure of migrant children in school. Drawing on recent concepts of "institutionalized discrimination", they refute the thesis that the low achievement of migrant children is caused either by their deficient cultural equipment or by the ethnocentric obtuseness of the school and develop an alternative explanatory approach based on the linking of concepts of discrimination with organisation-theoretical reflections. With this approach it can be shown that school failure and discrimination may not be dismissed as a "nationalist accident" but have to be considered a regular institutional option of the school in a society described as "multicultural". Schools always discriminate - positively or negatively - when, according to their institutional logic, it appears to be opportune. (DIPF/Orig.)
