Abstract (English): | Experiences in acquiring competency play a central role in the Focus Model of Subject-Oriented Music Teaching. For the first time, an inventory for measuring the musicrelated competence experience of pupils has been developed. The pretest (N = 143) yielded good to very good reliability values for the scales. Based on a larger pupil sample (N = 536), we could prove in a structural equation model (SEM) that a high degree of competence-building does not influence the attitude towards music education at schools of general education positively. Actually, this attitude is influenced indirectly by the motivation of music-related action. Therefore, we conclude that pupils who have had much experience with building music-related competencies need motivation as well in order to develop a positive attitude towards music instruction.
