Abstract (English): | For some years now, the educational administrations in a number of Federal States (Länder) try to improve the efficiency (and sometimes also the strength of the legal position) of school management and school supervision. There are a number of objective reasons for this renewed interest in issues of school governance and Integration beyond merely political ones. One of them is the pronounced individualism of the teaching role anchored in the segmented structure of schools. An analysis of administrative files from Lower Saxony suggests that this individualism of the teacher is an important background element of the historical evolution of the formal school constitutions after 1945.
