| Abstract (German): | Eine abschließende Bilanz der Bildungsexpansion ist nur schwer zu ziehen. Die Öffnung der höheren Bildung für die breite Bevölkerung führte auch zu mehr Konkurrenz auf dem Arbeitsmarkt und entwertete bestimmte Zertifikate. Eine mächtige Zeitdiagnostik, die in mehr schulischer und akademischer Bildung die Lösung aller Probleme sah, verstellt bis heute den unbefangenen Blick auf die Folgen der Bildungsexpansion. | Abstract (English): | A final assessment of educational expansion after World War II is not easy to draw. More access to higher education led to more competition in the labor market and devalued certain qualifications. A powerful analysis of the times (Zeitdiagnostik), which sees the solution of all societal problems in more schooling and higher education, interferes with an accurate evaluation of the consequences of educational expansion.
