Abstract (English):Conditions on the job market or individual and family decisions lead many people in Austria to hold a job that does not correspond to their level of qualification. This means that they are actually overqualified for their position. To what extent does formal overqualification have an effect on one’s sense of health and on job satisfaction? Drawing on the PIAAC database, the article investigates the connection between formal overqualification, state of health and job satisfaction. The result is that members of the workforce who categorize themselves as having a job that corresponds to their level of their education tend to be more satisfied with their job and also rate their state of health to be better. As the author explains, for long-term maintenance of employability, it is necessary to take into account and actively control the mechanisms of interaction between qualification-dependent employment, state of health and job satisfaction and the resulting consequences for employability.
