Abstract (German): | Gesundheit ist eine zentrale Ressource im Alter. (DIPF/Orig.) |
Abstract (English): | Health is a key resource in old age. How an individual will age is dependent on the person’s biography, genetic disposition, socioeconomic status as well as sex and level of education. The fact is that people with a higher level of education don’t just live longer; they also enjoy more years of good health. This article presents the findings of national and international studies on the correlation between health and education and the risk of poverty in old age. Explanations are sought: differences in health burden, in resources for coping and in health care above all result in differences in health and illness behaviour. What can adult education achieve in this area? The answer seems simple: target group-oriented education in old age might reduce existing inequalities. (DIPF/Orig.) |
