(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):The formal dimensions of the concept of responsibility are defined in the context of philosophical theories. With reference to social psychological and interactionistic theories the attribution of responsibility is then defined as an interpretive process that is embedded in a broader social context in which the conditions of the attribution of responsibility, such as causality and intentionality are grounded. A comprehensive typology and practical explanations (justifications and excuses) is given by which persons deny responsibility for situations and actions. Practical explanations have two functions: intrapersonally they serve to preserve the self-image of the person, interpersonally they serve to maintain social interaction. The discussion of the theoretical categories draws on selected empirical studies of the attribution and denial of responsibility. (DIPF/Orig.)
