Abstract (Englisch):The debate on state versus private school Organization which took place at the beginning of the supersession of parochial schools in the eighteenth century is - in terms of the regulation of the economic system - expressed in the simultaneously evolving doctrine of market economy. In this, Adam Smith relates school and instruction neither to market regulation through prices, nor solely to market regulation through state power, but rather to a regulation by the public opinion through science. However, neoclassical economics, in its attempt to reconstruct the market model, does not come up with this third type of regulation but proposes instead to substitute privately controlled vocational education for initiation into the public domain. By expanding Adam Smith's model of political order it can be assumed that only a school financed by the state and controlled by the public provides the stability necessary for both an initiation into a rational public and its continuation and expansion.
