Abstract (English): | More than ever before at present adults are demanded to learn on their own, especially in vocational settings. The article deals with the problems of autonomy and motivation in different forms of autonomous learning. Different forms of autonomous learning are classified discerning specific activities in the learning process. The person's experience of autonomy, however, is not simply determined by the degrees of freedom to organize the process of learning. Referring to the approach from Deci & Ryan the experience of autonomy is brought in relation to motivation and discussed for different forms and aspects of autonomous learning. The theory is confronted with findings from three studies, which examined processes of motivation and autonomy in learning settings with a different degree of guidance. As the findings are in accordance with the theoretical expectations, finally some implications for the design of learning settings are discussed. (DIPF/Orig.) |
