Abstract (English):This study introduces an adapted German version of the Gold-MSI inventory to measure the musical sophistication of students at secondary education schools. Musical sophistication is a psychometric construct that refers to musical skills, expertise, achievements and related behaviors across a range of facets that are measured on different subscales. Reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha) and confirmatory factor analyses indicate acceptable to good subscale reliabilities and model fit indices with the data from this student sample. In addition, a structural equation model outlines the relationships between the facets of musical sophistication and demographic as well as socioeconomic background variables. In summary, the results demonstrate that the German version of the Gold-MSI questionnaire can be used with students at secondary education schools. (DIPF/Orig.)
