Abstract (German):Die Arbeit mit authentischen Fällen findet im Rahmen der Lehrerinnen- und Lehrerbildung zunehmend Zuspruch. Abstract (English):Case-based learning on the basis of authentic cases is increasingly well received in the context of teacher education. It is expected that case-based learning might, e.g., strengthen the link between theory and practice, or help avoid the development of inert knowledge. However, less frequently discussed is the essential question as to what the criteria of good cases are, which facilitate the formation of professional knowledge, beliefs/values, motivational orientation and abilities of self-regulation. The paper explores this issue on the basis of seven theses which rely on theoretical considerations from the field of professional theory and learning theory. The authors discuss seven criteria which make a good case in teacher education. These criteria include reference to the occupational field, narrative anchoring, reference to the structural uncertainty of the teaching profession, facilitation of different courses of action in the sense of role-making and role-taking, consideration of varying rationalities and actual practices as well as motivational impact.
