Abstract (German):Zwischen Verhaltensauffälligkeiten und Lernschwierigkeiten besteht ein enger Zusammenhang (z.B. Abstract (English):There is a close relationship between behavioral problems and learning difficulties (e.g. Fischbach et al., 2010). Up to now few programs to promote social and emotional competencies in students with learning disabilities have been evaluated in German-speaking countries. In addition, school-based interventions have for the most part only shown small effects in terms of reducing behavioral problems (Durlak et al., 2011). In the present study, the effectiveness of a comprehensive training course for young people with learning disabilities will be investigated. The intervention evaluated consists of 18 sessions and is based on the social-cognitive model of information processing (Crick & Dodge, 1994; Lemerise & Arsenio, 2000). To test the effectiveness of the program, the progress made by subjects in the experimental group (N=74) who participated in the intervention was compared with a control group (N=63) who received no treatment. A pre, post and follow-up experimental design was used. Students’ development was assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ; Goodman, 1997). For the analysis of the data, a mixed-design analysis of variance model was employed. The analyses show small to medium effects of the intervention in reducing behavioral problems when comparing the values for the “total difficulties score” (η²p=.066), the “emotional problems score” (η²p=.047) as well as the “hyperactivity score” (η²p=.034).
