Abstract (English):Since the foundation of universities of teacher education in Switzerland, the range of tasks assigned to teacher educators has become multifaceted and manifold in this context of tertiary education. Although the term «teacher educator» reflects the teaching-oriented tradition of this profession, it remains incomplete and its relations to academia are still fuzzy. The responsibilities and functions of teacher educators can be considered from a variety of perspectives, e.g. by drawing comparisons with university teachers and higher education pedagogy or with (higher) vocational education and the professional field.
