(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):Mental stress and strain in the teaching profession are considered as high. As a result of this descriptive finding, intensified efforts of prevention and intervention as well as stigmatizing attributions to the clientele of teachers can be recognized. lt remains largely unclear, if mental exhaustion is in fact a specific of the teaching profession and how it can be predicted. Thus, the article analysis the mental exhaustion of teachers in a representative comparison of occupational groups descriptively and shows proximal predictors regression-based. The basis are data of the BIBB/BAuA Employment Surveys 2006 and 2012. The mental exhaustion of teachers is noticeable high compared to other employees, but it does not differ from members of other social occupations. High mental exhaustion of teachers can be predicted particularly by a high qualitative workload and by a low job satisfaction. The effect of occupational groups is suppressed under additional control of social support and noise pollution. Therefore, mental exhaustion cannot be understood as a specific of teaching profession any longer. Irrespective of this result, the qualitative workload in teaching profession is significantly higher than other (also social) occupations. (DIPF/Orig.)
