Abstract (English):In this article, we argue that the Levels of Emotional Awareness (LEA) of (future) teachers in pedagogical contexts can be considered an important facet of their professional socio-emotional competencies. Given that inclusive educational settings are often perceived as more challenging by teachers, this facet seems especially relevant. Thus, this study presents initial steps towards developing a performance-based measure for assessing (pre-service) teachers’ LEA in Pedagogical Contexts. Together with self-report measures of emotional intelligence, perspective taking and emotional exhaustion, these items were presented to a sample of N = 456 teacher students from two German universities enrolled in four different teacher education programs (primary, inclusive primary, secondary, and special needs education). The LEA coding of answers proved to be reliable. Further analyses show expected relations to regulative aspects of emotional intelligence and plausible differences between study programs. Results are discussed with regard to the further development of the suggested measure as well as its implications for the LEA approach. (DIPF/Orig.)
