(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (Englisch):If learning is understood to be a (conscious) acquisition of knowledge, qualifications and competences right up to informal and reflective learning processes, the places where this learning actually occurs range from institutional (organised) to extrainstitutional (informal) places of learning. The emphasis and relevance of these places of learning can greatly differ depending on one’s phase of life. This article attempts to summarize the discussions of places of learning that have taken place in the German-speaking world since the 1970s. It appears that learning outside of educational organisations and thus in different contexts is increasingly becoming the subject of educational research. Nevertheless, there is still an absence of significant empirical findings on the “places of learning” of individual target groups. This applies above all to learning by senior citizens, in which case it is important to push a more open approach founded on organisational theory that is above all subject-related. (DIPF/Orig.)
