(DIPF/Orig.) |
Abstract (English): | Introspective empiricism can be highly beneficial for research on media education. Arguing in defense of introspective empiricism, this article provides three reasons for its usefulness, delivers an insight into the philosophical underpinnings of introspection, and briefly criticizes the way in which first-person data are collected. This study takes a student research seminar about the reception of video tutorials as the basis for considering both the opportunities and challenges of an introspective approach. Students who participated in the seminar engaged in a process of systematic self-observation - a specific type of introspective empiricism. In the context of the seminar's findings, particular attention is paid to the problem of reactivity - or the process by which observer and observed merge together. (DIPF/Orig.) |
