Abstract (English): | One of the central concerns of teacher education is that prospective teachers should acquire the ability to act professionally. The questions as to how academic knowledge can support the development of professional action and as to how prospective teachers can acquire the necessary transfer skills have proved to be persistent problems that have only been incompletely solved so far. The core practices approach addresses these questions from a pragmatic perspective: Prospective teachers are to develop and flexibilize significant strategies for action that refer to concrete professional challenges – so-called «core practices» – by identifying the underlying professional knowledge and enacting these core practices adaptively in order to render them flexible and habitual. This paper presents the core practices approach, explores its potential for the professionalization of prospective teachers, and initiates the discussion on a new perspective that has received little attention in the German-speaking academic world so far.
