| Abstract (German): | „Der Mensch ist das Maß aller Dinge“. Ausgehend von diesem Satz aus der griechischen Antike und Schlussfolgerungen daraus umreißt der vorliegende Beitrag das humanistische Weltbild und damit in Zusammenhang die Bedeutung von „liberal“. Hauptaufgabe des Humanismus ist es, so der Autor, den Menschen von inneren und äußeren Zwängen zu befreien und ihm so zu ermöglichen, das eigene Schicksal selbst gestaltend in die Hand zu nehmen. „Liberal“ meine den Kampf gegen innere und äußere Zwänge, die Verteidigung der persönlichen Freiheiten, einen respektvollen und reflektierten Umgang miteinander sowie das aktive und kreative Gestalten der eigenen Entwicklung und der Welt, in der wir leben. | Abstract (English): | “Man is the measure of all things.” Starting with this sentence from Greek antiquity and conclusions drawn from it, this article outlines the humanistic vision of the world and thus the meaning of “liberal” in connection with it. According to the author, the main task of humanism is to liberate the human being from internal and external constraints and to make it possible to take one‘s fortune into one‘s own hands. “Liberal” means the fight against internal and external constraints, defense of personal freedoms, a respectful and reflective manner of dealing with one another as well as active and creative organization of one‘s own development and of the world in which we live.
