Abstract (English):This article tries to develop a deeper understanding of the role of young people attending a classical concert. To describe the socio-cultural structure of a concert community, the theoretical concept of a community of practice by Etienne Wenger (2006) is applied. By comparing the three fundamental characteristics domain, community, and practice with a fictitious concert community, the study has shown that the theory of community of practice can be used for a description of a concert community. As a second step, empirical data from narrative interviews with young people were included in the study. The results showed that young people in a concrete concert community take up the roles of newcomers or outsiders and can experience conflicts with other audience members. The final thoughts raise ideas as to how music education in school can support a positive concert experience for young people. (DIPF/Orig.)
