Abstract (English): | Various studies have shown that musical practices are differentiated by social class and that similar mechanisms are at work in music education. But what is the nature of these mechanisms? In a qualitative study of photographs from community music schools in a state in Northern Germany, it could be shown that besides class, race proved to be a barrier to music education for all – a category so far neglected by most German music education scholars. The paper discusses some of the implications for theory and terminology that arise against the specific German background. (DIPF/Orig.) |
