Abstract (English): | This study validates and replicates the Musical Self-Concept Inquiry_youth (MUSCI_youth) as adjusted by Fiedler and Spychiger (2017) with a sample of German students (n = 280, 50.4% female) at secondary education schools. The MUSCI_youth is a measuring tool to assess musical self-concept with the help of 28 items in six factors (Mood Management, Community, Musical Ability, Movement & Dance, Ideal Musical Self, and Adaptive Musical Self). In this way, musical self-concept “summarizes a person’s answers to his or her inquiries into ‘who-I-am’ and ‘what-I-can-do’ questions with regards to music” (Spychiger, 2017a, p. 268). The results of this study show ambiguous fits between the data and the MUSCI_youth model over the two measuring points (confirmatory factor analysis) as well as satisfactory to good (retest-)reliabilities. We conclude from the analyses that with some restrictions (e. g., students’ age, type of school), the adjusted MUSCI_youth can be used for measuring students’ musical self-concept. (DIPF/Orig.) |
