(DIPF/Orig.) |
Abstract (English): | This paper derives from ethnographically informed research. From the perspective of Laclau and Mouffe’s theory of hegemony, it is shown how culturally specific singing is constructed as a norm in music classes to which certain values such as intonation and ambitus are linked and from which other values such as flow or phrasing are banned. Moreover, in the researched culture of music education, “the song” is constructed as the only culturally specific element, but this conceals the cultural constitution of the formerly mentioned values. This perspective makes it possible to understand cultures no longer as social facts but as constructs of one’s own culture. For this reason, the paper also makes suggestions for a culturally sensitive music education. (DIPF/Orig.) |
