Abstract (English):A longitudinal evaluation-study of the treatment effects of a psychotherapeutic child guidance center has been started with a systematic assessment of the psychic and behavioral disturbances, which children displayed at treatment onset. This diagnostic baseline investigation was carried out by use of the Multi-Axial Classification System for Psychiatric Diseases in Childhood and Youth (MAS). The results presented here are derived from a sample of 255 children, 74% of them male, aging about 6 to 13 years. According to the diagnostic analysis, the client population is mainly characterized by generally average intelligence, a remarkable high proportion of conduct disorders (nearly 50%) and frequent occurrence of specific learning disabilities (at least 40%). Regarding disadvantageous psychosocial circumstances before institutional care, it was found, that the most common disadvantages are broken home, psychic disturbances of other family members, and ineffective educational control. Further results let suspect, that minimal brain dysfunction increases the risks of both autistic and hyperactive disorders. (DIPF/ Orig.)
