Abstract (English):Nationwide surveys show that schools are increasingly Coming under pressure to do well and to meet people's expectations. The demands on the school with regard to its qualificational and educational functions are stepped up while, at the same time, the satisfaction with the institution is decreasing. A survey among Berlin parents, replicating a study carried out four years ago, focusses on the question whether parents with elementary school children also show signs of a growing dissatisfaction with the school and wether there are still differences among parents from East and from West Berlin. The results show an increase in the dissatisfaction with the framework conditions of the elementary school, in particular, and it becomes evident that - even ten years after the restructuring of the Berlin school system - there still are differences between East and West regarding parents conceptions of the educational mission of the elementary school, the central concepts of the educational and instructional tasks of both school and family, as well as the attitudes towards a reform of the elementary school.
