(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):The author assesses the development of different positions taken with regard to the theory of school culture, ranging from a normative understanding to the cultural turn in school theory. The focus is on the outline of a theory of school culture which views schools as symbolic orders of discourses, interactions, practices, and artefacts, influenced by the tension between the imaginary, the symbolic, and the real. School cultures appear as orders of pedagogical meaning, constituted and transformed by the agents of the individual school in their examination of structures of meaning of a higher order. In the school agents battle for recognition dominant orders of meaning emerge which each contain excellent, tolerable, marginalized, and tabooed cultural concepts and practices. They correspond with background-specific dispositions and create niches between homology and repulsion for adolescents to fit in. This is illustrated by looking at one specific secondary school (Gymnasium). (DIPF/Orig.)
