(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):From research on adolescents and on schooling we know that German students on average indicate a low level of school enthusiasm and that, in comparison, they spend little time on school matter. In pedagogical writings, this result is explained by referring, among other things, to processes of social change. Approaches of this kind, however, do not take into account the high degree of inter-individual variation among students. The "theory of motivational conflicts of action" is presented and examined as to its explanatory potential regarding individual variation in school commitment. This theory is based on the assumption that the relative weight of values of achievement and well-being constitutes a source of variation in the learning motivation. The authors specify when conflicts between actions arise and which reactions of adolescents to conflicts of action lead to a reduction in learning motivation. Empirical findings are outlined and discussed. (DIPF/Orig.)
