(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):In the Konstanz Longitudinal Study of 1979-1983 (age: 12 to 16, N= ca. 2000, five panels) one particular syndrome of adolescent life-style emerged, i.e. the great significance of smoking as a risk indicator. Based on the LifE-Study, this paper describes the after-effect of this life-style up to age 35. Findings confirm that the age from 13 to 16 is the main window of smoking prevention. Non-smokers continue not smoking in later life at a rate of 90%. Desistence in smoking varies according to level of education, gender, and family status. Moreover, smoking as life-style is associated with important transition processes into adulthood: especially for women, smoking was associated with earlier sexual experience, earlier intimate relationships, leaving home earlier, but later marriage. Therefore, transition processes into adulthood vary not only with respect to gender and level of education, but also with respect to life-style. (DIPF/Orig.)
