(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):The article shows the relevance of the PISA results concerning class differences in educational opportunities to the general discussion about education policy and education research. The following theses are being developed: 1) Since the 1970s, the illusion of equal educational opportunities has spread throughout Germany. 2) The paradigm shift in the German social structure analysis - the new theory of classlessness - and education research influenced by this shift have contributed to this development. 3) PISA has dispelled the illusion of equal opportunities by (again) proving two facts: a) Social selection is still very apparent in the German education system; b) Diminishing educational inequalities relate closely to the achievement principle. 4)The relatively low social selection in Eastern Germany is not a 'socialist heritage' - as the authors of the PISA results say-, but is due to changes in the course of German reunification.
