(ZPID)
Abstract (English):As a method that promises to overcome the deficits of traditional lecturebased Instruction, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has been implemented in many higher educational curricula in recent years. The aim of the present article is to take a critical look at the effectiveness of PBL in four categories of outcomes basic knowledge content, learning skills and strategies, students' satisfaction with learning, and skills for real-world success on the job. A critical review of the literature reveals that PBL is effective with regard to learning skills and strategies as well as Student motivation Compared to traditional forms of Instruction, PBL is somewhat inferior when it comes to transmission of basic knowledge content. The effectiveness of PBL with respect to the skills needed for Performance in practice remains unclear. Despite the large body of published findings, no overall superiority of PBL over traditional methods of instruction has been established consistently. Reliable conclusions will require the development of new methods of assessing effectiveness. (DIPF/Orig.)
