(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):Referring to a research project on the participation of students in the teaching of specific subjects, the authors examine in how far students participate in designing, justifying and deciding on their own instruction. Taking one example, i.e. the interpretation of an English lesson held in the final grades of a secondary school (gymnasiale Oberstufe), it is shown that students may well pursue aims other than those set by the teacher without provoking a breakdown of instruction. In a certain way, the students construct their instruction even if the teacher is dominant. Based on the interpretation of the lesson, which is further substantiated through a topical triangulation based on the evaluation of teacher interviews and of discussions among groups of students, different levels of student participation are distinguished. Within the framework of our survey, however, we did not encounter a form of student participation that could be considered optimal. (DIPF/Orig.)
