Abstract (English): | In the discourse on social acceleration it is maintained that we are confronted with a comprehensive "temporalization" of processes of learning and acquisition, i.e. with a temporal intensification and acceleration of these processes throughout adulthood. Apart from the fundamental theoretical difficulties inherent in such a temporal diagnosis, the findings of the diagnosis of acceleration - thus the author's thesis - are qualified by processes of the ageing of society: the cohorts of baby boomers born between 1954 and 1964 could, as important agents in the ageing of society, trigger retarding or "de-accelerating" moments. Following an outline of the relation between life-long learning and social acceleration (1), the author discusses temporal horizons and the implicit concepts of age, ageing and old people among the baby boomers born between 1954 and 1964 (2), partly based on first empirical findings of a research project on "Participation in Further education and Concepts of Age Among Baby Boomers" [Weiterbildungsbeteiligung und Altersbilder der "Babyboomer" (WAB)].
