Abstract (English):Globalisation in its present form has had a massive impact on employees and workers around the world. Production and services are being outsourced and states are undercutting each other in the areas of labour, social welfare and the environment. The author is convinced that the resulting race to the bottom can only be stopped by the international work of unions and NGOs. A prerequisite for “global action” in this sense is the development of a “global awareness” and the recognition of the possibilities for one‘s own action and cooperation. The goal of the educational project “Menschenwürdige Arbeit für menschenwürdiges Leben!” (Decent Work for a Decent Life), which will have finished by the time this issue is published, was to create and develop this global awareness. This article describes the background, structure and results of this educational project from the point of view of the Austrian Trade Union Federation, the core of which was a course for active involvement in globalisation.
