(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):Collaborative problem-solving requires that the participants do not only bring the knowledge necessary to tackle a given task, but also social skills to coordinate their problem-solving efforts. Collaboration in the solution process is characterized as effective if the interaction partners succeed in harmonizing their actions on the cognitive level as well as on the social level. In an empirical study 24 pairs of students (11-12 years) were observed while they tried to solve a problem task cooperatively. The results show that for each pair of problem solvers the number of effective dialogue transitions in their search for cooperation is relatively low, however the number of ineffective transitions is even smaller. There is a significant correlation between the total score for the effective transitions and the number of correctly solved problem aspects. The results suggest that the more successful problem-solving pairs showed better coordination in reasoning and argumentation. This conclusion is illustrated by a comparative qualitative analysis of an efficient and an inefficient group dialogue. (DIPF/Orig.)
