Abstract (English):Can a concept of love be an innovative enhancement for a philosophical ethics of care, so far particularly focusing on the phenomenon of respect for and the commitment in dependency? The author discusses this question beginning with Erich Fromm’s normative concept of charitable love, followed by a critical rethinking of Martha Nussbaum’s idea of love as capability from a pedagogical perspective. Thereby becoming apparent how close these thoughts are related to basic ideas of USAmerican pragmatism and notably the poet Walt Whitman. The objective of this article is to develop pedagogical consequences out of a empirically proved reality of care and love closely connected to questions of the capability to love, respect and confidence.
