(DIPF/Orig.)
Abstract (English):Since 1993 the institute of psychology of the University of Leipzig has evaluated a school-based drug prevention program. One of the criteria for the success of the school-based prevention efforts is the students' self-reported use of legal drugs. Corresponding data from a longitudinal study funded by the DFG can be shown for the grades 6 - 10 for the periodfrom 1993 till 1997. The article follows the development in the use of alcohol and nicotine in youths of the same age and the question of reciprocal relations with variables of the social environment. A closer look is taken on the data of 7th and 9th graders at three different points of measurement (1993, 1995 and 1997). The first part of the article refers to the epidemiological development in the use of legal drugs. In the second part the relations between variables of the social environment (among others stress at school, parental support, relations in the peer-group) and the consumption of alcohol and nicotine. Multiple logistic regression analysis makes it possible to ascertain the variables to predict the use oflegal dings. Over all points of measurement it can be shown that the consumption of the peers is the most important indicator for youth consumption. (DIPF/Orig.)
