Abstract (German): | In diesem Beitrag wird die These vertreten, dass die Globalisierung zu einer steigenden Bedeutung des Humankapitals für das Wirtschaftswachstum führt. Erläutert werden die Bedingungen, unter denen private Bildungsinvestitionen den Aufholprozess von Übergangs- und Entwicklungsländern fördern können: wenn Unternehmen in das Wissen der erfahrenen Mitarbeiter investieren, private Schulen und Wettbewerb zu Effizienzgewinnen führen und die Möglichkeit eines Auslandsstudiums bei der Rückkehr Anreize für private Bildungsanstrengungen bewirken.
