Abstract (English): | Cultures differ in their conceptions of aptitude. Therefore they also differ in what they consider to be especially brainy. In our society the brainy are normally those who do well in achievement tests. Many aptitude tests are based on this identification strategy. However, achievement tests discriminate children with a certain social background. This comes from the fact that children behave differently in the test situation according to their socialization. Therefore the same items measure different abilities. As a matter of fact especially native middle and upper class children are selected to take part in education programmes for gifted children and youth whereas children of the lower class and children with a migration background are hardly represented. This article discusses five myths and anti-myths, which belong to the base of many education programmes for gifted children and youth and confronts them with current empirical findings.
