Abstract (German): | Frühe mathematische Kompetenzen sind gute Prädiktoren späterer Rechenleistungen. Abstract (English): | Children´s early basic mathematical skills are good predictors of later academic achievement in maths. Thus, day-care as primary educational institution plays an important role in promoting early mathematics. Although numerous coursework exists for pedagogical professionals, the quality of maths-beneficial processes in this setting is low. The present article investigates a) the influence of mathematical process quality and b) the effectiveness of pedagogical professionalization on children ´s numeracy competencies in 197 pre-schoolers. We calculated hierarchical linear models and found a significant positive effect of mathematical process quality, but we were not able to confirm an additional effect of professionalization. We discuss methodological limitations of the present study as reasons for lacking effects of coursework and give perspectives on our further research on primary prevention of later academic failure in the area of mathematics.
