Abstract (Englisch):The author looks at the still relatively young field of music mediation. Referring to Andreas Reckwitz' society of singularities, he demands that music mediation should perceive itself less as a mediator for introductions to high musical culture as we know it, but rather take up the meanings of very different singular musical phenomena. He does this by analyzing concrete mediation projects in Vienna in terms of their habitual self-images. It is only through universality that music mediation will fulfill the demand for long-term significance within the diversifying society of the 21st century. This article is part of the anthology European Perspectives on Music Education, Volume 12, titled Music & Meaning, in which an international group of authors explores how music acquires meaning.
