Abstract (German): | Das Internet ist ein beliebtes Medium im Alltag von Kindern und Jugendlichen. (DIPF/Orig.) |
Abstract (English): | The Internet is becoming a popular media tool for children and adolescents. The goal of this longitudinal study was to describe associations of psychosocial adjustment, social integration and the way children and adolescents use the Internet. This study makes use of data collected within a questionnaire study with 484 children and adolescents at elementary schools in Berlin, Germany. Results show that the degree of problem behavior, as indicator of psychosocial adjustment, predicts whether the children and adolescents use the Internet to cope with their personal problems. In addition, analyses show that a positive integration into the family mediates the association of psychosocial adjustment and Internet use for girls. (DIPF/Orig.) |
