Abstract (English):For the first time, the study at hand examines lesson- and output-based goal orientations, more precisely referred to as competence orientations. We discovered cause and effect relationships between music educational motivation, self-reflexion and instrumental practice in a path analysis involving a sample of 487 music teachers from 14 German federal states. The teaching experience of the music teachers and their activity at schools with or without music specialisation play only an indirect role in motivation as a mediator. There could be no significant cause-effect relationships revealed between the curriculum orientation of the music teachers and other variables in the path analysis. The findings emphasise especially the influence of motivation on music teachers’ competence orientation. Further questions relate to the actual influence of competence orientation on teaching practices and, in this regard, possible connections to the motivation and performance of students. (DIPF/Orig.)
