| Abstract (English): | Response to music is regarded not only as a function of music itself, but also of the social and personality characteristics of the recipient. This study investigates the effects of aggressiveness as a personal trait upon response to music, based on the assumption, that "aggressive" music might perform a compensatory function for aggressive persons. 6 highly contrasting music examples were rated by a sample of 188 girls and boys aged mainly 15 to 17, using a specifically designed semantic differential of 9 scales. The results indicate some consistent influence of aggressiveness on response to music; these effects are comparatively weak. Intensity and direction of the effects seem to depend not only on the type of music, but also on the sex of the recipient and his familiarity with the music. Further research has to be done to explain the function of aggressiveness in musical perception. (DIPF/Orig.) |
