| Abstract (German): | Der Beitrag geht auf der Grundlage von Kohortendaten langfristigen Auswirkungen der Bildungsexpansion nach. Es wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Kohortenzugehörigkeit und Bildungsabschluß einerseits und kognitiven Fähigkeiten, kulturellen Gepflogenheiten, politischer Teilhabebereitschaft, universalistischen Orientierungen und Wertpräferenzen andererseits diskutiert. Die explorativen Befunde stützen die Vermutung, daß die Bildungsexpansion zu einer kognitiven Mobilisierung der nachwachsenden Generation mit langfristigen gesellschaftlichen Folgen geführt hat. | Abstract (English): | On the basis of cohort data this article discusses long-term effects of education and educational reform. The relationship between birth cohort and years of education on the one hand and educational outcome-indicators in a cognitive, expressive and moral evaluative domain such as command of a foreign language, cultural and political participation and value preferences on the other hand is studied by means of loglinear analysis and path modeling. The findings of the explorative study strengthen the assumption that the educational reform and the expansion of secondary and higher education in the FRG have led to a cognitive mobilization of the younger generation, which in educational and sociological theory is seen as an indicator of societal change in a long-term perspective.
