Abstract (English):In a multinational team the authors from Germany, Finland, Austria, Scotland and Spain provide European perspectives on improvisation in music education. The chapter contains a summary of five studies followed by a comparative overview of their central aspects and an analysis of the main points arising from the symposium discussion. The contribution reveals the diversity and richness of musical improvisation in distinct educational contexts. This article is part of the anthology European Perspectives on Music Education, Volume 11, which focusses on music practices in the classroom, diversity in music making, learning and teaching and praxeological perspectives on music education.
