| Abstract (German): | In der jüngeren Vergangenheit wird politische Bildung zunehmend als eine Technik der Prävention angerufen. Im Angesicht einer als ungewiss und beunruhigend wahrgenommenen Zukunft sollen antizipierte Gefahren, wie etwa Radikalisierungsprozesse, noch vor ihrer Materialisierung abgewendet werden. Auf der Grundlage einer Auseinandersetzung mit der Zeitlichkeit der Präventionssemantik geht der Beitrag den Verkürzungen einer solchen Verschränkung von (politischer) Bildung und präventivem Zukunftsbezug nach. Die These lautet, dass eine Übermacht des Präventionsgedankens mit gehaltvollen Konzepten von Bildung in Konflikt gerät, da er Bildung auf das Prinzip der Verhinderung zulasten des Prinzips der Ermöglichung einengt. Diese Problematik ist besonders virulent im Falle politischer Bildung, die nicht nur zum Zweck der Vorbeugung gegen wahrgenommene Bedrohungen gefördert werden, sondern auch Mündigkeit und Selbstwirksamkeitserfahrungen befördern sollte, denen das Moment der Ungewissheit und Offenheit des Zukünftigen eingeschrieben ist. | Abstract (English): | In the recent past, civic education is increasingly invoked as a technique of prevention. In light of an uncertain and unsettling future, anticipated dangers, like processes of radicalisation, are supposed to be prevented before they actually materialise. On the basis of an analysis of the temporality of the semantics of prevention, the contribution traces the shortcomings of such a linkage between (civic) education and prevention. It is argued that the idea of prevention clashes with meaningful conceptualisations of education as it reduces education to the principle of restraint at the cost of the principle of facilitation. This problematic tendency is particularly pertinent in the case of civic education which should not only be understood as a means to prevent anticipated threats but also as a way to foster maturity and self-efficacy which in turn build on the premise that the future is open and uncertain.
