| Abstract (German): | Der Aufsatz behandelt einen Ausschnitt aus den Bildungsentwicklungen in Westafrika im 19. Jahrhundert. In den Küstenregionen des späteren Ghana kam es unter maßgeblicher Beteiligung afrikanischer Bevölkerungskreise zu einer spürbaren schulischen Expansion. Diese führte auch zu einer verstärkten Nachfrage nach Sekundarschulbildung jenseits der einfachen Elementarschulen. In diesem Kontext wurde auch die ‚Mfantsipim‘-Schule aus den Kreisen der Fanti-Bevölkerung an der damaligen Goldküste gegründet. Die Autorin erläutert den sozialhistorischen Hintergrund und den wechselvollen Werdegang dieser Schulgründung. (Autorin) |
| Abstract (English): | The essay deals with a section of the educational developments in West Africa in the 19th century. There was a remarkable expansion of schooling in the coastal regions of what would later become Ghana, with significant participation from African population groups. This also led to an increased demand for secondary education beyond the simple elementary schools. It was in this context that the ‘Mfantsipim’ school was founded by representatives of the Fanti population on the Gold Coast at the time. The author explains the socio-historical background and the eventful development of this school foundation. (Author) |
